Q Q+AQ+W^AW CWe eact QCW = QCD only for AQe = AWacf (51) If these conditions exist or can he approached can he determined approximately from steam tables or diagrams or exactly hy analyzing in additionthethermodynamicrefrigerationcycle. Thislatterapproach ■would require a rather extensive expansion of the already quite in volved computer program and was not attempted at present also for reasons that the approximate analysis did indicate that Q^ ^ Q^ (within2-5%). Nottoselectthecorrectanalysisisalsodueto the fact that COP* or ACOP are conservative values for the following reason. A refrigeration system commonly specifies the cooling capacity Qg and the evaporation temperature T^. Lowering to T* increases this load hy AQ . To maintain the specified load Q and T requires eee adjustments. Thesecanhemadeeitherhydecreasingtheboilingheat transferareaorhyloweringthemassflowrate. Whatevercorrections aremadewillalwaysresultinasmallercondenserload. Thisimplies that the condensing temperature could he decreased further to T** yieldingCOP**,whichislargerthanCOP*. ThevaluesofCOP*or ACOP of Table 1 are therefore smaller than optimal possible. 7. Conclusions The mathematical model developed in this article allows one to actually simulate the thermodynamic processes in the evaporative cooled condenser during steady state operations. The results obtained clearly demonstrate the considerable enhancement of heat transfer as indicated hy ANu^ or hy in Table 1 or in Figs. 13, 1^, and 15. In all cases K > 3 and in some instances K > 5.1 These figures in ee addition show that K is largest for small velocities therefore the e required air mass flow rate and the pumping power is many times less than for dry air-cooled unit of identical capacity. 1 The experiments described in [13] did yield smaller values of K a. l.U for practically identical ranges of Re^ than in this work. TSis is mainly due to the fact that the surfaces in [13] were not wetted uniformly because only water spray into the air stream through horizontalchannelswasinvestigated. Thereforecoolingofairwas the major influence and not wetting the heat transfer surfaces. C-37PDF Image | Development of the Zinc-Chlorine Battery for Utility
