Thedigitalcounterconsistsofa10pps pulseoscillatorwhichis enableduponactuationofthe"start"push-buttonswitch. Theoscillator output signal is fed to the input of a divide by one hundred BCD counter of whichtheoutputpulserateis1/10ppsononepulseevery10seconds. This signal is used to strobe a "one" bit into a seven bit serial write/parallel read shift register. Thus, at t(o) "1" is written into bit position zero of the register. At t(0o) the "1" bit is shifted into bit position one and another"1"bitiswrittenintobitpositionzero. Thisprocesscontinues attensecondintervalsuntiltheregisterisfullof"ones". Intheauto- matic mode, the parallel outputs of the register provide command signals to operatethenecessarycomponentswithintheelectrolysissystem. Table1 illustrates the auto start-up sequence of events. 2.3.2 TemperatureControl Control of the electrolyte temperature, necessary because of the waste heat generated in the electrolysis reaction, is accomplishedby using a thermo- stat in the electrolytedischarge line from the modules to provide a control signaltoacoolantsolenoidvalve. Ondemand, thesolenoidvalveopensto allow coolant to flow through the electrolyte heat exchanger. The flow rate issetbyaflowcontrolvalve. The thermostat provided in the Electrolyte Oxygen Generator has a switch closure settingof24°C(75°F). Duringnormaloperation, thedewpointoftheproduct oxygen will be no greater than 24°C (75°F); the hydrogen dewpoint will be approximately50C (41°F). Coolant flow to the electronics cold plate is controlledto maintain 25°C (77°F) and is regulated with an electrically actuated flow control valve. 2.3.3 WaterFeedSystem Water balance in the circulating electrolyte is maintained by controlling theelectrolytevolume.
