(b) The full cell voltage vs capacity for the Zn/ClO2 cell in (a), cycled under constant current charge at 5mA/cm2 with a capacity cut off at 10mAh followed by a constant current discharge at 5mA/cm2 to a lower voltage of 0.8V. The testing temperature was 0.5°C ± 0.5°C. The positive electrolyte consists of a 1.5 mL volume of 1.95 mol/L NaClO2 solution, on top of which floats 6 mL of a hydrocarbon solvent in which ClO2 is soluble. The negative electrolyte consists of a 3 mL volume having 0.96 mol/L ZnCl2 and 0.98 mol/L NaCl. A silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) wire pseudo reference electrode was placed in the negative electrolyte of the cell. A piece of sodiated Nafion 117 (Na-N117) separated the positive electrolyte and the negative electrolyte. (c) The cathode vs reference electrode voltage for the cell in Fig. 2b. No ohmic corrections have been performed; the ohmic resistance between the cathode and the reference electrode is about 18 ohm under the testing condition. 7
